Every fall at Brush Creek Evergreens, our greenhouse comes alive with one of our favorite traditions — homegrown mums, planted, nurtured, and cared for right here on our farm.
We don’t ship them in. We don’t outsource them. We grow them ourselves, from tiny plugs all the way to the full, beautiful plants you take home in September.
🌱 Planted after Memorial Day — Cared for Every Single Day
Our mum season begins in late May, when 2,500+ young plugs arrive and we start planting. From that moment on, mums become a seven‑day‑a‑week commitment:
-
daily watering
-
careful spacing
-
shaping and pinching for fullness
-
monitoring color development
-
protecting them through heat waves and storms
It’s hands‑on work, but it’s the kind of work we love — and it’s why our mums have the size, shape, and longevity customers come back for year after year.
🌼 What We Grow
This year’s crop includes:
-
Classic 9" mums — full, rounded, and perfect for porches
-
Large specialty planters — multi‑color combinations for instant fall décor
-
Hanging mum baskets — a Brush Creek favorite you won’t find in big box stores
Every plant is grown with the same care and attention, and every one is designed to thrive well into fall.
🍁 When They’re Ready
Our mums begin showing color in late August, and we officially start selling the first week of September. If you love early color, come right at the start. If you prefer full bloom, mid‑September is your sweet spot.
🌿 Why Brush Creek Mums Last Longer
Customers often tell us their mums from Brush Creek last weeks longer than mums they’ve bought elsewhere. Here’s why:
-
grown locally, not stressed from transport
-
watered consistently from day one
-
shaped for fullness and strength
-
acclimated to Pennsylvania weather
-
planted in high‑quality soil mixes
- fertilized to optimize growth
A healthy start means a longer, brighter finish.
